Steelhead Fishing

Rapid River Outfitters has long been known as the Best drift boat fishing outfit on the lower Salmon. The knowledge & professionalism of our Guides far surpass any other company on the lower Salmon River.

The lower Salmon is blessed with the longest (in duration) Steelhead run in the country. Plan to start catching steelhead in mid-September with the fall run peaking from mid-October to mid-November. These fish over winter in the river between Riggins and the Snake River; and most years you can fish below town right through December & January for holding fish with very little pressure.

February & March is our spring run as these fish complete the migration to their spawning grounds. These fish still show amazing strength & vitality even after some 6 months in our river system. Salmon River Steelhead are the hardiest Steelhead in the world, conditioned to migrate 500-800 miles to the ocean & back in their 3-4 year life cycle.

The size of these fish runs anywhere between 4 - 20 pounds; and once you have one on your line you will see why over 500 anglers a year fish with Rapid River Outfitters.

You will fish in comfort in our top quality 16 - 17 foot aluminum drift boats that comfortably seat 2 (or, by request, 3)  anglers with propane heat for cold conditions.

All rods, reels and tackle are supplied with our trips.
